Started with Orange on the 5th August and have 8 (well almost 7) months left of my contract remaining.

The thing is I think my deal is pretty crap and my phone (K800i) I have grown a disliking for because of the damn joystick and crappy reception and baterry life.

My contract is the student 25 with 100 minutes and 1000 texts. However I am almost going over my texts every month now and my minutes I am using well over 200 it seems so it needs to be changed.

Would go about upgrading to student 30 (200 minutes and 1000 texts) but would still get charged more on the occasion as I'd go over that pretty easy as well.

What I am wondering is, is there any chance I can phone Orange, upgrade to an 18 month contract (Dolphin 35, 550 minutes and unlimited messages) and get a free phone again (probably Nokia 6233) and cancel the one I am on now without having to pay it all off which will be around £175 which I cannot really afford? :(

If not then what are my best options? :p

99.999999999999999999% Sure you cant do that.

Best option IMO is ask Orange to up your tariff to what you need, to be honest, if you're going to use it that much you should pay for it. Sell your k800i and buy the phone you want sim free.

Yep. I want to up my tarriff but also want to start a new contract to get the 18 month deals. But then I don't want to start an 18month deal and not get a new phone. :p

If I don't have a new phone, any chance they will reduce my monthly bill (£35) on the new plan to something cheaper possibly?

.......hmmmm.......

do you realise by doing this you are kinda ending the original contract, and you cant really end a contract and move your number and get a free phone.

Yep.

Seems like it's going to be a big no then. You see if I upgrade to £35 a month now its something like 275 minutes and only 750 texts which is just not enough. Thats if I upgrade for my remaining 7/8 months. However, if I upgraded to the 18month plan it would be 550 minutes (double!) and unlimited texts which is so much better but 18months is just not worth it unless I get a new phone as well. :(

I am probably asking for to much though to be honest. Might just have to wait it seems and upgrade to Student 30 to get 200 minutes and keep the 1000 texts.

How about just take out the new 18 month contract you want with the phone that you want. Stick the k800i on ebay and use the money from the sale of the k800i to pay off the 7/8 months of your existing contract. It will mean getting a new number and the money from the k800i probably wont cover the full mount remaining of your existing contract, but its an option at least

The basic answer to your question is no.
You are under contract for 12 months as Orange will want to get the money back from the handset they more or less gave you at the very beginning.
The only way you're getting out of that contract is by paying off what you owe - which of course is 8x your monthly charges.

Once you've had your contract for 6 months you should be able to drop it down to the lowest tarrif available, but not before.

Orange will be happy to change your tarrif for the next 8 months if you call them.
If you're going over your allowance each month then it would make sense to maybe increase your monthly line rental by £5 or whatever and then enjoy more free minutes and free text messages and the net result should be you saving money.

You need to see that by doing what you want them to do Orange will have made a big loss on you - what with the initial price of the handset etc.
They certainly aren't going to give you yet another free phone and lose even more.
