hello 8 pack,

i received a i5 4960k and asus z97 pro gamer motherboard on Friday.
i would like to overclock it to the max i can so get every bit of performance out of it.

im using a corsair h80i to cool it.
also, whats the average clock for this chip?

my PC spec

i5 4960k
asus z97 pro gamer
2x4gb xms3 1600mhz
corsair h80i
gigabyte gtx 970 g1
antec true power 750w
crucial m4 256gb SSD

thank you for your time :)

The 4690K I did not really test.

Its not in my systems nor is it useful for benching.

I suggest you check around the forum for other results with similar set ups.

I am sure 4.4 - 4.5 should be very easy to achieve with around 1.3v on the core this is what u expect from all 4790K which I have tested a lot.

I've built a 4690k build for my young one recently. Good chip.

To start out aim for 4.2-4.3 @ 1.15v and work up or down

VCCIN: Auto (if in doubt 1.85v)

These chips clock well in terms of frequency. Mines doing 4.6 @ 1.25v and 4.2 uncore at 1.185v

LLC Medium (6-7)

H80i should be able to cope just fine. Don't exceed 1.35v vcore / 1.95v vccin

CPU-z says mines at 1.285v for 4.5Ghz. Uncore x38 with 1.1v (+0.05 from stock). I've set it to that and set my ram to stock cause the summer temps were making it unstable. I've tried prime 95 and it fell over in pretty short order, but BF3 I found excellent for stability testing. It says 1.35v is max for uncore: http://www.overclock.net/t/1490835/the-gigabyte-z97x-overclocking-guide

I set vring to 1.23v and uncore x40 is stable, running xmp 2400 too.
