carry out a stability test?
Im ready to do some stability testing on my over clock. i think i have found the sweet spot for me so need to see if its stable.
i7 2700k 48 multi @ 1.34v

This is not a 24/7 pc. This is a normal pc, used to do normal tasks one might do normally :)

The overclock is for gaming that i will regularly do and for video rendering which is done once in a while but possibly more frequently.

Tools i currently have are:
prime 95 - win7 64 bit
core temp
cpuz
occt.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Do an hour or so stress test with prime95, once it passes that just do what you'd normally do. Play some games, do some rendering. If it's stable you're good to go, bsod etc then keep tweaking.

No point in being 12h stable prime95 if it's gonna crash the second you open bf3 or Sony vegas.

Thanks for the quick reply. i appreciate it.

Don't forget to check for WHEA errors in the event log. If you get them, bump up your voltage by a notch and retest until they go away.

You can use your system with WHEA errors but these are calculations which have gone wrong and needed to be recalculated, so they effectively slow you down a touch or can cause stutter etc.

Which event log and where do i find it?

Well i have it stable on prime for 90 mins, no errors or bsods @ 5.0
Thats at 1.42 volts, bit much for my liking. I have settled on 4.7 @ 1.3v. Stable on prime for 2 hours and has been stable whilst setting up other bits. Ran 3d mark and unigine for my gpu with no issues, yet to game on it tho.

Very nice chip mate!

Thank you.
I have got 2x 4gb sticks of kingston genesis hyperx ram 1600.
I got them running at their xmp setting which is 1600 @ 1.65v.
I havnt tried to OC my ram yet because im unsure how you would go about doing it and what settings need changing if any.
If the sticks are rated 1600 how much potentiel is there to go further?
Also any guidance for ram overclocking would be nice.

The UP7 is excellent for clocking RAM. Its not the board at that level or the CPU IMC as most do 2600mhz no problem.

What speed are you aiming for before I suggest and what performance???

As fast as my cpu/mobo will allow me to go. The spec on the mobo has 2800 oc in brackets, not sure if it will go that fast. Go ahead, what you reckon mate?

If your after Pure performance test your IMC. Try booting the system at 2800, 2666 and 2600 first to see what teh IMC of your chip can do. It stops at 23 on post display the IMC is not capable of the frequency. It stops at 55 then it can do it. Then get the RAM to suit where it stops.

Team 2800mhz is quality 2800mhz. Then any C11-13-13-35 2666mhz or 2600mhz kits are excellent Hynix IC.

no mate it just wont boot over 1600. i have been to gigabytes memory support list and they deffo list greater than 1600 memory on it for this board.
Do i need to change any settings or anything. its on xmp profile one at mo.

You not reading me!!! It does not need to boot top test IMC. Set 2800 if the dispplay stops at 23 you cant get 2800 to post whatever RAM you have if it gets 55 it will work so you buy 2800 DIMMS and so on down. Obviously 1600 Dimms will not post we are testing the strength of your IMC.

Yeh it stops at 23, cant select higher than that. Only lower.
Above you said "if it gets 55" what are you referring to?
