8 pin 12v (CPU) doesn't reach

In my antec 1200 case the 8 pin 12v CPU cable (split into 2 4 pin connections) doesn't reach the socket on my motherboared (p6t deluxe) I bought an extension cable for it but now only 4 pins fit in because the shapes on the left 4 pins don't match with the motherboards socket.

Can you buy different shaped extension cables, e.g. i got the wrong one or can you run the motherboard of just 4 pins?
 
so the extension cable is the wrong one?

Is there a way I can tell the difference by name or is it just a case of looking?
 
You want an 8 Pin to 8 pin (your 2 x 4 pins will plug into one end like they would a Mobo) extension cable of said length, Just tell them it's for your 8 pin power connector on your Mobo, Hard to go wrong really, You have just been unlucky ;)
