I'm pretty sure my Corsair RMi850w modular PSU only came with a 1x 8-pin to 2x 6+2-pin cable to connect to my GPU (EVGA 980ti FTW), the GPU requires 2x 8-pin connections so will that 1x cable be enough? I would have thought a decent PSU like that would have come with 2x simple 8-pin to 8-pin plugs.

My corsair 860i has been powering 2x MSI 980 Ti gaming 6G with 2x of those cables since the cards launched. Haven't had any issues at all

I would be cautious of using cables from a different PSU.
The pinout has to be the same or it can cause serious damage to your hardware.
Both are corsair it'll be fine
Nooooo. That's bad, different PSUs are different you could really damage something like that.

I would suggest you go and do some research before making any further statements like that. You could end up costing someone some expensive damaged components. Corsair does not make a single psu. The HX1000 is built by CWT while the AX860i is built by Flextronics. The cables will have different pinouts and are not compatible with other psu's. Using a cable not meant for the psu will lead to something going pop, usually the psu and possibly also the gpu as someone on here found out last year when they had the same brilliant idea. As a general rule, never use a cable not meant for the psu. While some can be used on other psu's that have the same oem and the same platform they are relatively few in number and you should always double check before attempting it.
