8 Pin P4+ Power

Is this a requirement or a luxury ? Does it need the 12v power ? Does a 4 pin fit ?

I'v always been led to believe that it's required, TBH I've only once powered a system up without it connected and the system did fire up but I also has a normal molex connected to the mobo.

4 pin will fit in the 8 plug on the mobo by the way.

Given it only supplies 12v and ground, why couldn't 8pin have been left on EATX only :/

If you got 8 pin then I tend to fit 8 pin.
If your overclocking or running quad then personaly I would install the 8 pin, so least you have got full power to cpu.

Im not going to be overclocking at all and will be running speedstep etc.

So the 4 pin should be fine ?

Will also only be running the cheapest PCI-E graphics card I can find.
