8 pin PCI-e Cables

It's something to do with the power the board can suck out when under strain (ie. largely overclocked) and apparantly it has a chance (very low, but a chance nevertheless) of melting the wire or causing damage to the card or the wire if the extra connectors aren't used. From reading up on it, people are saying that it's 2 extra ground's, but other places are saying that it's 1x 12vDC and 1x ground, because the wire has 4x yellow cables and 4x black which indicates another 12vDC, instead fo 3 yellow and 5 black which would mean 2 ground.
Its two extra commons, black. No extra 12v power. It's all about 'rating', different plugs are rated at continuous loads and temps. The 6 pin is rated at 75W, the 8 pin is 150W. The current carrying capacity is exactly the same. Seen quite a few mods with just a single extra common spur added for the XT.

Dont get the ultra they cost way too much for what they are. Plus the newest GTX have the same core so it will clock the same.

I doubt any GTX has a REV 3 core and does it come stock at 655/2250, and do stock 695/2380 ?.

OH, and by my own testing and reading as much as I can find, the Ultra as newer Rev3 Core may have Purevideo2 like the 8500/8600's which 8800GTS/GTX do not have as were released a while back. (may aint 100% but tests seems to show same figures over my 6000/7000's)

I've just got a 6-pin PCI Express to 8-pin PCI Express 2 adapter cable from the US as I could not find a UK supplier.

Cost was a very resonable $7-95 for the cable, and total cost including postage to the uk was $12-65. Payment was through Paypal and came out at £6.58 !! Ordered on Sunday and arrived on Friday.

As has been posted before, the overclocks are limited to 858 core and 900 mem, however it keeps the settings after a reboot.

Dont know if I can post the link here or not? = Best not to

Which PSU do you have ???

and why did it not come with the 8 pin PCI Express cable if it supports it ??

It's the Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro. No cards were out that supported it 4 months ago when the power supply did so they didn't ship out cables - sorted now as a call to them gets them to send them out for free!
