Just bought a Radeon 7950 from OC - it is a reconditioned product so no accessories, disk or manual.

The card has two PCI power sockets - one 6 Pin and one 8 Pin.

Since the card is supplied by OC with no documentation I'm not sure whether it needs both or just one - I assume both, but my HD7850 just uses a single 6 Pin.

Assuming it needs both, my next problem is that the PSU only has 6 Pin PCI plugs.

So can I just use two 6-pin plugs or will I need to get a 6-8 adaptor?

Cheers,

Nigel

What is your system spec including model of PSU you are using?

It needs both.

You will probably be alright using a 6 to 8 pin adapter for a while. But I would suggest upgrading your PSU sooner rather than later as not having the required connectors usually suggests something about how the unit was designed to be used.

What PSU are you using?

Cause any decent PSU of 500W upward should have at least one 6pin and one 6+2pin connectors.

You wouldn't want to use those adapter unless you made sure your PSU (in particular the 12v rail) can handle that output first, or you might rise overloading your unit and it might go bang.

Use a 6-pin to 8-pin adapter and it should be ok as 7950s don't usually need 225W which is the limit on a 2x6-pin setup (75W each and 75W from PCI-E).

I had a similar PSU and it ran my overclocked 7870 fine which will be similar to a stock 7950.
