I have a near perfect network now.
After doing a lot of slapping myself in the face for having a lot of stupid ideas, I have only one more to ask.. heHeHe
--
I have cut my network down to 3 sub-networks, they are mostly now gigabit with the exception of my kids, but they, and I, are happy with the speeds they are getting... As long as my eldest can play his xbox360 and my daughter can yoochoob, things are sweet.
At my main PC here, however, I have my Modem, and an 8 port gigabit switch.
I am now using the modem for only a Modem and the Wireless, and of course the DHCP Server. This seems to be helping a lot especially when I have a load of devices on the thing, however, the wireless is really struggling at times.
The Main Modem I use is a Netgear DGN3500 and that has 4 wireless netyworks on it, irritatingly, Wireless 1 cannot be turned off, but its the most useless one, kicking me off every 5 minutes, so, thats simply hidden, and I use network 2 for the phones in the house, network 3 for the Laptops and Network 4 is all mine ( currently simply experimenting to try spreading the load because it goes down all the time )
I have also used a couple of other modem/routers and I get similar issues no matter what.
---
Now, I have an old Dreytek 2820 Modem, its a bit wrecked and has no wireless, however, when I use that as the modem, and DHCP, and use the Wireless off the DGN3500 as ONLY a wireless box, the network seems to be able to handle the load better.
Similarly, if I use the DGN3500 as ONLY a modem, and DHCP, but then use another router for the wireless, that too also helps.
Now, on to my actual question...
Does there exist, a router, that has 8 gigabit ports, N300 Wireless, but does not cost a fortune?
