8 port UniFi switch

For those of you who are already using UniFi wireless access points, but don't need 24 ports to use at home, this looks like a tasty option.

It's a shame there's no rack ears for people with small cabinets since it looks like a 1U design, but it ticks a lot of other boxes.
Very tempting. Hoping for a 16 port fanless model as well and then I'll be all set (8 port for the living room, 16 port for the home office). Haven't seen UK pricing yet.

That looks the spitting image of the cisco meraki PoE switch I just got, PoE, 2 SFP's, cloud based management. Only issue is the license I have if for 3 years :(
I attended the Meraki webinar about a month ago, spoke to the guy on the phone a few days later, still haven't received my 8 port switch. Starting to feel like I got gypped.

Mine arrived next day after I spoke with the rep at 3pm :D

Do these uniFi switches have the same licensing agreements, I cant make sense of their website

The Unifi software is a free download -- there's no licensing requirement. It can be a bit of a hassle to setup, and it has maybe 10-20% of the Meraki functionality. But it's still really nice (I have a couple of Unifi UAP-AC-Pro access points), and the UBNT prices are just in a completely different (much cheaper) ballpark than Meraki. Meraki is very nice, but very expensive.

Meraki switches are horrifically overpriced unless you are in the situation of needing to manage branch network connections. I'm not pretending this is in the same league as a Meraki product but it's fine for 90% of use cases.

Oh dont get me wrong meraki is certainly over priced, I only have it as I got a free demo product with a 3yr license :)

Hoping the UniFi switches come in at a good price, will certainly consider getting one, even the 24/48 port versions look cheapish for a L2 managed solution with 10GB SFP's

I reckon the 8 port is going to be £150-180. There is also a 16 port coming, which will probably be £100 more.

I followed up with the Meraki sales guy, and it turns out "consultants do not qualify" -- would've been nice to know up front. Never a good sign when a promotion that is intended to generate good will ends up doing just the opposite.
