Well ive spent all day trying to find some way to install my e6300 L2 into my poor ConRoe945G-DVI but as the bios is too old it wont post arg!.

I dont suppose anyone knows anyway to flash a bios without haveing to post ? i thought about just putting a celeron D or a pentium 4 into it, flashing the replaceing the cpu, but then it occured to me i dont have access to either lol.

Failing that i have £81.32 in my bank, what can i get that is going to post running the e6300 l2 with 1 gig 2x512 of crosair value select.

many thanks

May i suggest the Gigabyte GA 965P DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard On Special Deal Of The Week for £82. Only a few quid more with postage worth the small investment.

I hate to break it to you, but the Conroe945G-DVI always supported Core2Duo's from the very earliest BIOS, so it's not that. Does it actually say Conroe on the motherboard anywhere? If not then it's not a Conroe945G-DVI.

If it does then it's either borked or it needs a CMOS reset. Try the CMOS reset first.

Was the board new or second hand? If it was new, then return it to wherever you bought it and ask them to get it working or replace it.

What is it actually doing? Will it post at all?

Well ive had a look on the manufactors website and the cpu support list and it says it allways ran the e6300 but only the L2 from 1.30 i am runniing 1.20 - 8b as it says on the 4 meg bios chip (i think thats right anyway). Oh and its definatly that mobo im 100%.

Thanks for the two suggestions,

any other thoughts on what i could try, prehaps finding an alternative chip from somewhere so i can flash the bios?

If you found the 1.30 info on the webpage and you have the 1.20 i think you have answered your own question.

You will need to flash the bios to run the CPU and hopefully your board will post ok.

Reminds me when I bought the P2 333Mhz with a QDI mobo from a vendor, the only problem was that the bios version shipped with the mobo only supported up to 300Mhz so I had to borrow a mates 300Mhz CPU flash the bios before I could install my 333Mhz CPU. After that it worked fine.
