80% Netflix 20% PS5 - is premium cost of LG C1 OLED justifiable over MUCH cheaper QLED's?

Hi, I was going to order a 55" LG C1 OLED as the main family telly when I saw just how much cheaper QLED TV's are! TV will be used 70-80% of time for Netflix by kids and wife. PS5 gaming represents the other 20-30% and that will be a split of me and the kids (probably more me, the person paying for the tv ;))

Viewing angle is a factor, albeit a minor one, as one person has to watch at quite an angle when we are all watching TV together (but this is rare!) and I hear OLED is better for this?

Is the OLED C1 really that much better than cheaper QLED TV's? Is the difference noticeable and therefore justifies the cost?

Cheers,
Dub

A million times - yes. The main reasons being: a) the QLEDs that are comparable to OLEDs are costing as much/more than it; b) the cheaper QLEDs are much worse than the top of the line ones (which are comparable to OLEDs); c) the price difference is minor compared to how much usage you'll get out of the TV so there's no reason to skimp.

This is reassuring to know, I have a C1 arriving tomorrow and wondered the same. Started to doubt the investment since placing my order, so this thread has cheered me up.

I bought a cheap LED last year and the old adage buy cheap buy twice. TV looks okay for gaming but for TV and films, very dull, no matter what setting I tweaked.

It was my own fault as an impulse purchase without seeing in person (lock down). Whereas I have heard great things about the C1 and its great for gaming as well (own a Series X).

Thanks guys. I agree it’s a small investment considering how much use I will get. Now I just need to decide on 65” vs 55”. Massive price difference and not a huge room. Will prob order 55.

How far do you sit from the TV? My seating position is around 4-5M from the TV and genuinely considering upgrading from 55" to 65", if you only sit say 2M away, then 55" may be more than enough.

IMO yes. Its perfect for consuming content and gaming. Only if you used display for heavier work + desktop apps might be when you turn to alternatives.
