Hi guys,

Just wondering what you'd recommend as a gaming rig for about £800-900?
I'd probably try and overclock it to.

Thanks.:)

Assuming the answer to the previous question is no, this is a great rig for the budget:

Whoops, I can do slightly better:

With the extra money you could get a mouse, keyboard, another HDD for RAID 0, or the 64-bit OS you'll need. :)

EDIT: RAM prices are crazy on OcUK today. The best deal on RAM has changed 3 times since I started watching!

I might be tempted to change the motherboard for the DS3P as it has a few more features and is supposedly a bit more stable but it probably won't make much of a difference. Also does the Thermalright still require lapping at times or has that been sorted recently? Other than that I can't fault it. :)

As far as I've heard the Thermalright's surfacing problems were largely corrected after the first few months on the market. I'd think that this late in the production cycle they'd have sorted wee niggles like that.

Just changed a few things...

Any problems or better products I should change?

Fingers crossed the prices stay low until the end of the week.

I've got a P35C DS3R and I've had no problems with it at the mo. But semi-pro waster's much more experienced than myself so you might want to take his advice on getting the DS3P. You could actually get another 8800GT eventually as well if you got a DS3P (although I'm not sure if it actually supports SLI).

You've actually got the motherboard and it works well for you, that is better than reading about it from other people so don't be too quick to defer. :) The DS3P does have Firewire, Crossfire and a couple of other things that the P35C DS3R doesn't have but if they aren't important to you then it isn't a compelling reason to spend more cash.

Crossfire and SLi are two competing standards and currently you can't interchange (for the most part, there are certain exceptions but usually need some form of hack to work and potentially the X38 chipset may support both). I personally wouldn't really consider any dual card solution worthwhile unless you have a huge monitor and lots of cash, more hassle and it doesn't offer a twofold increase in performance.
