Hi,

My dad is after a new computer with around £800-900 to spend.

He is after:

Full base system (MB, CPU, MEM, HDD, case etc.)
Monitor
Operating System

All included in the price.

The computer won't really be used for any particularly intense tasks (no gaming), just general internet use, e-mailing, word processing etc.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I think you can safely get all that he is after for a fair bit cheaper!

EDIT:

With that said, here is a pretty decent build I think, future proofed and all:

Great, cheers.

I've also been looking at pre-built systems.

Seen one for £845 with the following:
Intel® Core™ i5 750 Quad Core Processor (2.66GHz, 8MB Cache) - LGA1156
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium Edition - 64bit English
ASUS P7P55D LE Mainboard
4GB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM - (2x2GB)
1TB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive with 32MB Buffer
22x Dual Layer DVD Writer Super Format +R/-R/RW/RAM
1GB ATI Radeon 5770 Graphics Accelerator GDDR5
24" Iiyama **Special Offer** (1920x1080) Full HD Monitor - Prolite E2407HDSD
7.1 High Definition onboard sound card

To me this looks like very good value, or am I missing something?

Thanks

Yes indeed, but he does seem insistent on spending that money :S

Should spend half that amount and give the rest to me for an upgrade!!! :p

teach him a lesson buy him a pc for half tell him it cost full and pocket the change for your upgrade*

*he may never speak to you again so weigh up if its worth it for a new gfx card and some ram ;)

+1 or just spend the money an a really decent monitor kb and mouse, things he'll get use out of, using a 5770 for viewing webpages and a bit of word is just pointlessly stupid :confused::eek: Thats like using a wrecking ball to knock in a nail to put a picture up!!!

if its all gonna be just internet and stuff, a quad core is not necc, neither is a tb hard drive, or an amazing graphics card! spend 2/300 on a entry level pc and then take the 600 and buy a new TV for the living room, something that he would use more!

or better yet, spend 800 on an amazing pc, and swap it for yours, so he gets your older one (perfectly find for his use) and u get a new awesome rig! win-win!
