Hi, Is it just me or does that sound like a rip off for a 54 reg (05) Citreon Dispatch hdi van with 51000 miles on the clock??

ZOMG extortionate,

but it all depends what was done,

major service I assume would possibly run 250-300 on its own, add in a few wear and tear components and it could be easily 800 quid

I mean if you were to add a set of decent tyres on there maybe half and exhaust and a few odds and sods you wouldn't be far off but I would assume a 05 plate van would still be under warranty(3 years ) or is it an import (reduced warranty) I mean theres some pretty pricey things can go wrong with modern vehicles that might not seem much but can be pricey to rectify.

So ideally can you let us know exactly what work was carried out if it was JUST a service i'd be hitting someone but without knowing that cant say

I dunno what was done, but I got a phone call off my boss (company van) telling me how much its gonna cost him. He did mension brakes and tyres, and the exhaust was a bit rattly at low revs prior to service

Whats involved in this? I would imagine there is only cambelt and ancilliary belts to change on top of a normal service (oil/filter, air filter, fuel filter, poss. brake fluid). 800 seems very expensive unless it needs the engine out or something!

well tyres are anything from £50 upwards a corner, £250 for the service, maybe a new exhaust. Doesn't take long to get upto £800.

I paid near £500 for a major (Inspection 2) service at an independent garage. Lots of work done, suspension pollen filters aircon re-gas etc etc.

My cars a 120k mile BMW 7 Series.

Now, to me £500 is a lot!

£800 for a van? Never in this world! - Yes a dealer will charge you that, but you'd be silly to take it to said dealer in the first place.

Find an independent commercial vehicle specialist and save yourself a packet!

In my experience, when a garage know they are servicing a company car they find a list of problems as long as you arm. They know 9 times out of 10 the company will foot the bill without asking too many questions.
