Hi guys,
I'm looking to build my first pc and my lappy no longer cuts it and doesn't go anywhere anyway. My budget is around £800, requiring a complete system with monitor. My primary concerns are noise levels and a decent amount of power. I'm not too worried about having a massive screen, 20" max would be absolutely fine for me if the graphics card is sufficiently powerful.
This is a quick starter I've put together adapted from the £700 guide here. I know next to nothing about pcs so feel free to change absolutely anything. I chose the GPU here as it looked quiet for a decentish card, but more can be spent on it if necessary. I'm not sure on the case, I just really like it >.<. Is is big enough and does it have potential for being very quiet? Aftermarket fans can be bought if needed to do this.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Al

Nearly identical spec to my system I just built! You'll need a CPU cooler as thats the OEM, or get a retail pack. graphics wise the Vapor-X is excellent I went for it over a 5850 as I needed something now and couldn't stretch to a 5850, but it's probably worth the extra £50.

Second post so don't take my word for it but you've chosen well, almost. I would go for an MSI board, just because I have one doesn't mean it's good, but it never broke down or gave me any problems. Also the retail i5 says you get 3 year warranty with it.

The only real difference , I think , between OEM and retail CPUs is that retail comes with a stock cooler and OEM doesn't. :)

And the warranty is longer , as already mentioned.

oem 1yr warranty, retail 3yr.

If its only a small price difference between retail and oem I would go retail.
My current CPU is an e8400 and I ordered a retail chip and a TRUE at the same time :)
Nothing wrong with doing it that way only a little more and after all I wanted the extra warranty just in case ;)

Thanks for the advice guys.
Would you go for OEM or retail i5 regards noise/cooling?

How's your system for noise Skyrunner?

Nearly always go with OEM, it's cheaper and you'd only throw the stock cooler in the bin anyway.

OEM means you just get the chip and nothing else, no box, no cooler, just the hardware and normally a 1 year warranty.

Divine Wind is right though, if the price is very close just go Retail for the warranty and spend around £20-£30 on a decent air cooler like a TRUE or Tuniq Tower.

Thanks guys really appreciate the help. I think I'm pretty much there, what do you all think of the final spec?

Most importantly, how quiet do you think it will be? I'm not going to overclock, so do you think it'll have a fair shot at being quiet at idle?

Many thanks.
