Why O why are you guys recommending i7 systems for gaming on only a £800 budget? Go E8600 and spend way more on graphics 2x HD 4770, 2x GTX 260, or 2x 4870

i agree with this, but it depends if upgrading in the near future is wanted considering s775 is going to die out

Just add a CPU cooler of your choice and thats a 4GHz+ setup.

dual HD 4770 slighly better then a HD 4890.

I agree with the i7 comments. One poster even combined an i7 with a 4850?? This is a gaming machine.

One thing the OP hasn't mentioned is his native res. As this will have a massive bearing on what components to buy, anything above 1050 lines is going to need more than a 512mb GPU, in act, I would advise going for a 4890 1Gb and a Core 2 Duo Quad.

You will get a much better system for playing games out NOW and at least until DX11 comes out. I'm sure the OP isn't planning a system that will play games better in 3 years from now when he has a DX11 card and a Core2Quad is limiting the system.

800 on a gaming machine, its seems pretty obvious to go the i7 to me.

but thats just me..

its just within budget, and you can get a decent card in there aswell, with room for another one if he ever needs it.
