£800 gaming build

My current system is:
CPU: Q6600 G0
Cooler: Tuniq Tower 120
Mobo: Abit IP35 pro
Mem: 4GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2
GFX: GTX 570
SSD: Samsung 840 120GB
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB
PSU: Corsair HX 620W
Montor: NEC Multisync 24WMGX3 (1920x1200)
Sound: Auzentech XFi prelude
Speakers: Logitech Z5500

The core of my system is 7 years old and the fan in the Tuniq tower has done some miles, games are starting to be a struggle, so it's time for an update.
I'll transfer the sound card and SSD across, along with my OS license (Win7 64bit), and keep the speakers and monitor - but everything else is to be replaced.

I've already bought the memory as it was on a one day only the other week, and settled on the Enthoo Pro as my desired case, so the following is set:

I'd prefer an Nvidia card, and I've fully read up on the GTX 970 3.5GB 'scandal' thread and I'm accepting of the issue.

When I get home tonight I'm going to research a bit more on the 970 vs 290x - particularly around noise. That price is quite compelling though, I hadn't realised the AMD price drops that had been put in place in reaction to '4Gig-gate'.

I doubt SLI is likely in my future, so will stick with the superflower PSU either way - though I am a sucker for a modular power supply.
