Hey Everyone,

I'm at a complete loss. I've been asked by my brother (first time I think he's spoken to me this year, but who's complaining?) as to which laptop he should buy for gaming within an £800 budget?

Any recommendations?

Ta!

I use a desktop for everything, but he requires a laptop, so no choice there unfortunately!

I would tell him to buy a 360. Gaming on a Laptop is too expensive, you get a machine with poor battery life, poor specs in comparision to a similar priced desktop can do, I'd tell him to take the 800 and get a MacBook.

Thanks for all your suggestions. He already owns a 360, but wanted it for the pc exclusives I believe.

Thanks again,

Andy.

A shuttle pC with a decentish GPU for <£500 and a cheap laptop to use on teh go for £300+ should be the best bet. But if he's still adamant about a gaming laptop (total waste) he should get something with the best GPU in that budget.
there is nothing at OCUK at that price. But http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=LS-000-MS&groupid=959&catid=1828&subcat= should do pretty well but it's about 350 overbudget. And the next one down is a fair bit worse and it's around £200 cheaper:

An XPS, maxing on the graphics card, is a good idea.

You can get a ASUS N73SV-TZ641V Core i5 Laptop - N73SV-TZ641V
which has a GeForce GT 540M graphics adapter for around £640.

The downside to many laptops, even those promoted as gaming laptops, is that the disk speed is usuallly 5400 rpm, instead of the normal desktop speed of 7200rpm.

I recently bough an Asus N55SF with a Nvidia GT555M for £750.

6GB RAM
i7-2670 cpu
1600x900 screen.

Its been great so far. plays Starcraft 2 and SWTOR (beta) really well.
