£875 Gaming PC - Need Help

Hi all

A friend of mine recently asked me to spec him a PC for £800 so I immediately turned to you guys for help :D

He said that this PC has to run Battlefield 4 and a few other high spec games.
Exclude the peripherals for now, not sure whether he needs them or not.

EDIT!!! Peripherals must be included in the budget of £875. (Mouse, Keyboard and Monitor)

Thanks a lot.

I agree, I am very much enjoying my 120gb Vertex 3. It opens Photoshop CS6 in approximately 1 second, can't ask for more than that :)

Though I still think for the sake of £7 over the original speced or £9 over that one it'd be worth getting the Samsung EVO, if the budget can be stretched by a few quid :)

i'd be more inclined to go with the samsung, i have one of the 830's and it is outstanding, if only it was 256gb instead of 128gb

It's not quite that simple is it?

If you feed the Kingston non compressible data I believe it's write speed will drop to something similar to that of the Samsung 840. I think the figures they give you are often with optimal testing not worst case.

The EVO that I suggested has a different type of flash memory and a different controller, I'm not sure but I believe it will maintain a higher speed?

Edit:

Indeed.

The 840 actually slightly outperforms the SSDnow v300 in benches. The EVO decimates both.
Although in gaming it's unlikely you'll see any difference and it's generally not recommend to store games on SSD's anyway, they don't really benefit, other than slightly reduced loading times.

AS-SSD Overall Scores
Samsung EVO - 813
Samsung 840 - 689
Kingston v300 - 471

I would recommend the EVO and expect it to obliterate older drives as not only is it newer tech, its more intelligent with it's data management.

840EVO is a great choice, but comes at a price.

Hi all,

I had to edit the thread to a £875 budget. This includes peripherals (Keyboard, Mouse and Monitor). Just spoken to my friend and that's what he said he wanted. Thanks a lot for the feedback as well guys.
