Hey guys, I'm looking for a replacement for my 3 year old rig and want to spend around £800 (less if possible as i'm a poor student!). However, I also record games and will be using the new PC to render videos, as such I will need a bit extra memory. In addition, as I live away from home half the year a portable case would be ideal if possible.

I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse and software etc. but other than that I'll be building from scratch. Any help would be greatly appreciated as i'm not sure where to even start.

Thanks in advance, my friends have told me Overclockers is a great site for help with these kinds of things!:)

Hi flake,

Are you looking at building it yourself or getting OCUk to do it? Also if you wanted OCuK to build the computer for you i think its £60.

My build is a mini itx to keep it compact, the only thing i think is wrong is psu. Tried squeezed all i can into without going into 'B' grade items, syaing that had a quick butchers at 'b' grade items and there isn't anything there any better imo. BTW that 120gb mSATA has the best performance for price from what i can see give or take £10.

The GPU has a 5yr warranty, whioch is awesome.;)

Hey Almightyliham,

Thanks for the help! I built my previous computer and hoped to do the same with this one, although it depends on how complicated it is to put together as i'm not 100% confident I wouldn't break something in the process.

I like pretty much everything in there, though i'm wondering whether it would make a big difference if I were to scrap the 'portability' and just dealt with having a big PC?

Trying to keep with a similar overall price i have found these (XfX case the other side of xmas as over £100). The motherboard was the cheapest boasting Sata boost system, w3ater cooler is bigger for the case you want. And i just browsed the cases and picked a few.

All i will say is have a look yourself and figure out what you want for your pc. As you now have a base build try tweaking it, so swapping the gpu, cooler etc for another brand.

Hey decads, thanks for your input, it's always good to have a different idea of what I could get!

I noticed that you've put a different graphics card to Almightyliham but i'm not sure what the difference is between the two (both being GTX 970) other than the 'B' grade. Would it not be safer go to with Zotac as it has a 5 year warranty?

YOUR BASKET
1 x **B Grade** MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £239.99
1 x Zotac GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (ZT-90101-10P) £239.99

The Zotac is better suited for small cases, which is why it was recommended I guess.

MSI will have the better cooler meaning lower temps and noise under load.

Thanks for clearing that up, it's all a bit confusing when you aren't as tech savvy. I think the best option would be the MSI in that case although its B grade makes me slightly hesitant so i'll have to think on it and do some research.

You can always send it back if there's an issue so no worries there, hopefully will be none though :)

good luck and keep us informed on how it goes or if you have any further questions.

That's true! I'll keep you all informed and try to post a list of parts that I decide on before I buy it in case there are improvements that can be made or compatibility issues.

Cheers! :):D

I knew something was amiss but couldn't put my finger on it :(. I went with the zotac because it was on offer and has a 5yr warranty, the size was secondary.

But missing the ram is quite embarrassing.

Hey, I've been compiling together builds for the best part of today and have come up with this as a (near) complete build. I've managed to bump up the price a little bit to accommodate these changes.

Does this look good and seem feasible? Also I was looking at an intel i7 processor instead of i5 for rendering etc, do you think it's worth the extra investment as i'm not sure what the performance difference is between the two processors (It would cost about £70 more).

Thanks again for the help, I'd never have gotten to this build without the sample builds you've both given!
