My mate wants a new pc to play games on, he has a monitor, keyboard, mouse. He has £800 to spend

Ive told him that he should wait a while until Conroe, but its his money so....

Any way this is what ive come up with so far for him:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - OEM
Asus A8N-SLi SE nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3 (GE2GB3200BDC)
BFG GeForce 7900 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940)
Antec Super LANBOY Aluminum Super Mini Tower Case - No PSU
Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU - Black UV
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g) (AC-000-AC)
NEC ND3550 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM
Samsung SpinPoint P SP2504C 250GB SATA-II 8MB Cache

Subtotal £687.50
VAT £120.32
Total £807.82

Is there anything that could be changed, or shall i tell him to go ahead?

Looks good to me.

I personally prefer the ATI range of graphics cards but seeing as you are going for an SLI motherboard fair do's.

Could change the HDD for a Hitachi Desktar purely because they're a diddy bit faster, but that'd be it.

would agree with going for the Connect3D ATI Radeon X1800 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-044-CO)
(especially at the current price), apart from that all else looks good

The x1800xt will overclock to just about beat the stock 7900gt, but the 7900gt will clock far, FAR further.

SLi board if your not gonna use it then go for something else.

Looks ok to me. You might as well go for the SLi board. I was led to believe SLi Is not much more than the normal boards and It's always good to have the option of a second GFX card.

Just a quick one I put together, I could come up with a few different ones,
in terms of looks, graphics, psu. But at the end of the day your going to do what you want anyway, regardless of what advice you get. And that graphics card I put in this spec, will destroy that 7900GT in everyway you can think of and more. Should clock to XT X speeds aswell without to much hassle. Any questions just ask.
