Hey guys,

Building a system for a mate. He's looking for a gaming machine, TF2, MW2, L4D2, CSS etc. Budget is, as you might have guessed from the title, £800.

He already has a (student) copy of Windows 7 HP.

Suggestions, criticisms and advice welcome.

£803 - side fan in 300 is pointless imo plus the phenom x3 comes out on top of the i3 when it comes down to gaming.

Its a 50 quid more than the budget but theres a lot more bag for your buck there I would say. I have the 5770 its a good card but if I was building a PC with a budget for 800 I would buy the next card up as the 128-bit interface slows it up a bit on the 5770. Other than that you could remove the GFX card and go for the 5770 to go under the budget.

Dropped the bundle, added a X3 720 and 1920x1080 monitor......and a couple of LED fans for some bling ;)

The AM3 tri core CPU is a great budget processor, scores pretty highly in gaming and can keep up with the big boys. I wouldn't bother going with a 5830 over the 5770, the price is too much for what you get, considering the 5850 isn't much more. It unfortunately came in at a poor price, a bit cheaper then it would be a much better card. I'd go for one of the amd setups above.

He'll I've got 2 cavier blues in raid 0 and it keeps up with the ssd drives quiet aswell! On benchmarks mind you I get good speeds though around 150mb/s! I wouldn't get another seagate now lol

If not 5830 get the 5850 the 5770 is ok but i'd prefer having a 256 bit bus for better performance it's bloody good for older games but it's a bit slow at times on bad company 2

Well the price between the 5830 and 5850 is like 20£ and i think the 5850 is a lot better compared to the 5830 so i think its worth spending 20£ more for it.
