I'm thinking of getting a new system and donig it right this time so that all the components are perfect. Based on the OcUK bundle, I decided that the Abit IX38 ( http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-138-AB ) would be a good choice coupled with a Q6600 CPU.

Now the confusing part. According to the bundle, it recommends 1066 RAM but the 4GB stuff is really expensive. I've done some googling and it seems that most places say that the 800 is good enough as long as you don't want to overclock. I've also seen people saying that they got the Q6600 to 3GHz pretty easily so I was wondering if that'd be possible with 800 or would I need 1066?

Oh and if I were to get the 1066, would I see any performance increase over the 800 if I didn't overclock?

800mhz ram will get you upto 3.6ghz easy - 1066 if you want to go higher but then you will be limited by the cpu.

Yup, what Thebug said. I'm at 3.6 at the moment using 800 ram. 400x9 will leave your ram at stock. I got my quad to 4ghz but i had to use my friends ram, which is 800mhz too! Just his clocks better :)

PC6400 is fine for a Q6600, if you buy good quality 6400 then its should see you up to 450FSB.. only really need better RAM if you want some sick RAM timmings/frequency for benching
