£800ish - Time for a new machine!

Hi all,

I was hoping you lovely people could aid me in speccing a new PC.

It's been a while since I bought the base kit for my current PC (2009 - but its had a few upgrades over the years) and with BF4 its finally showing it's age properly.

I was thinking that only one thing might be able to be re-used, which was a 'Coolermaster Real Power 620w Modular Power Supply' but if you think its a bit past it, I understand

Anyway, I'm going to be using this for gaming mostly BF4, Ass Creed: BF, etc. I can upgrade bits and bobs but I'm not skilled enough / don't want the hassle of - overclocking.

I have:
- Case (Corsair 600t white - looks like a storm trooper)
- Keyboard & mouse
- Monitor
- Optical drive
&
Possibly a PSU - as mentioned above.

I'd like:
- Nvidia card. For example ( https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-209-MS&tool=3 as its in the sale - Although i'm aware that'd be half my budget gone :eek:

)
- SSD, for OS and a few select games/programs
- OS

As mentioned in the thread title, £800-ish. I'd rather go a bit over than get something crap under budget.

What's the mobo, CPU, ram etc you currently have?

Currently have:
- Asus P6t
- i7 920 @2.66 (Noctua NH-U12P cooler)
- 6gb Gskill DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz
- geforce 560ti II
- Win 7

Thats a thing, do i go for Win 7 or 8? On, primarily, a gaming PC.

The only part of your build that really needs upgrading is the GPU. There's nothing wrong with your CPU - although a small overclock wouldn't go amiss.

Id be inclined to agree with Fulax here. For games your 920 is still capable of cutting it, especially if oc'd. New gpu and your good to go.

you have a decent cooler as is, why not reuse your current win 7(if needed you'll need to ring up ms)?

I think upgrading CPU and GPU would be a good choice as the i7 920 will limit performance

Ah, good news! Perhaps i'll postpone the entire rebuild then.

My only thought is that the P6t only has 3gb SATA for the SSD.
However, any SSD is going to be an upgrade from normal HDDs I suppose.

well if you are going to keep your current cpu remember you're going to need to oc it or else it'll effect the performance should you upgrade the gpu, you really should have it oced already as it does your cooler injustice.
