800W enough power.

Hi All

Just a quick one really.

Will the 800W BFG PSU be enough for an SLI'd 8800GTX and 2.66ghz Core 2 Quad system with 2 HDD and 2 DVD-R drives?

Or will i need to get the 1K unit?

800W is more than enough. Actually, overkill.

ok then cool, the only reason i was looking at the 1k unit is because it comes with the 4 PCI-E connectors for the GTX's but i can easy use the molex converters and save some money

also would 520W be enough power ? I have an OCZ Modstream in my current rig thats all. Or would it be a safe bet to just get the 800W?

Core 2 Quad 2.66ghz
Asus or BFG 680i Mobo
2GIG RAM
SLI 8800GTX's EVGA or BFG
x2 HDD
x2 DVDRW's
x2 120mm Fans
x1 X-FI Elite Pro
x1 Raytube Blue

I'd say you would be pushing it with a 520w, for a single 8800 card and a quad-core it would be fine but SLi plus all the rest means that it is very likely to be near its limits if not over them.

save even more money and get the corsair 620w

ppl are telling me this will do it... i didnt think it was enough tbh

Yah, the 620W Corsair will be fine seeing as it has more Amps @ 12V than you will ever need.

The Corsair 620W is a good choice but if you are after something a little cheaper then the Antec Truepower Trio 650W can be had for just £76 and is superb and the Akasa Ultra Quiet 650W for £82!
