Even though I don't really need 8 cores I'm so tempted to order an 8120 for £119 to test out Bulldozer on my Sabertooth ASUS 990FX board. It would also mean I could use my 1055T in a HTPC build for the lounge along with my old Saphire 5850 mmm temptation.....cracking price but should I do it???

I can't argue with that but I have such a nice motherboard that I want to stick with 990FX as long as it doesn't bottleneck my 6970 then I'll be happy (oh and runs skyrim and Amiga emu's at a nice speed).

I need to run PSU calc to see if I have enough power in my OCZ 600w PSU to run this thing

Mmmm according to the PSU Calc if I ran with 1.5v and overclocked to 4.8 I would need a minimum PSU of 571 and a max of 621.

If I want to play with Bulldozer I'll have to add the cost of a bigger PSU - I may as well look at something capable of adding a 2nd 6970 for crossfire fun. This would mean an 850W or higher time to check prices again..

Jennidc,

I was within a gnats testicle of buying this one at a very good price, this price is not unique however.

I also have a 990x board ready to go bought from MM and I will be putting my 1055T into it until Q3 when I have high hopes of piledriver (depending on pricing again).

I expect unless you got a good price for the 1055T it would not be a cheap upgrade and no real increase in performance. It is a good processor for xfire though.

I expect to buy an AM3+ CPU next.

Just remember that the X6's are actually stronger clock for clock than the Bulldozers. So if you are running a 4GHz X6 you are going to need at least 4.5GHz on the Bulldozer to match what you already have.

This is the sad truth - unless you can load up all the cores you're probably going to actually go backwards in performance, or at best stay the same.
