With the deal today is it worth the £123 (after £20 cash back) to upgrade my 1055T Phenom 2 x6 to an 8150 Bulldozer. Then use the money saved to get a 2nd 6970 2nd hand.

(I already have a 990fx Sabertooth board)

or

Spend £250 on 2500k z77 / IB i5 3570k + z77 board.

Discuss :D

I mainly play games like Battlefield 3 / Skyrim / etc

Also like messing with emulation of older systems

When is Haswell due to drop and is it rumoured to be much better than 2500k / 3570k?

I suppose another option is to get a 2nd 6950/70 anyway and wait for steamroller or Haswell

To throw even more choices in the mix I have just noticed an I7 X79 with mobi for £380 -2nd hand although that might be overkill for my needs

Having weighed up the pro's and con's I think I will go for a 2500k with a z77.

The Bulldozer just isn't a big enough step up even though a cheaper upgrade option.

The lower power requirements would allow me to add a second 6950/70 without upgrading my 600w psu. My Ram and cooler are all compatible (for x79 would need a new psu + cooler)

Unfortuately the 2500k seems to be higher in price more recently - although motherboards seem to be cheaper. So might wait for a deal.

cheers for the ib tip didn't realise they were so much better and was worried about the internal TIM horror stories :) 3570k sounds like the way to go :)
