I need to build a new PC and have been considering the following parts:

1 x AMD FX8350 £148.96 Inc VAT
1 x 256GB 2.5-inch SSD 840 £120.79 Inc VAT
1 x WD WD20EZRX 2TB Green SATA III £69.84 Inc VAT
2 x AOC E2260SWDA LED 21.5" Full HD DVI/VGA Monitors £87.85 Inc VAT each
1 x Corsair Carbide Series 300R Case £59.98 Inc VAT
1 x 630W Be Quiet! Pure Power L8/CM Modular PSU £65.56 Inc VAT
1 x (2x4GB) Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Pro Series Red, PC3-14900 (1866) £65.99 Inc VAT
1 x Samsung 24x SH-224BB DVD-RW SATA OEM Half Height £12.99 inc VAT

The above is roughly £719.81

I need some suggestions for the following please:

1 x USB3 Motherboard With on-board graphics if poss for dual-screen.
1 x A semi-decent AMD Graphics Card
1 x Sealed water cooler for FX8350

And confirmation that PC3-14900 is the right RAM for a FX8350?

Or any alternative competitive solutions....

Thanks guys!!

I would think about Intel Ivybridge or Haswell TBH. The tech is better, quicker and more efficient.

Also, what is the PC being used for?

With a total budget and what you're planning on using the PC for I'm sure we could spec you a great machine.

Predominantly office use, Its not for a gamer..

Damn, was a little too quick for that one then.

If you are solely using it for office use, look at Trinity as you could save a good amount of your cash with something which is not OTT for that purpose.

OMG you guys are quick on the posting LOLz (Thanks!)

@snips86x, I need x2 monitors which need to be VESA mountable as they will be mounted on a dual mount (which I also need to buy come to think of it). I liked the look of the AOC E2260SWDA LED 21.5" Full HD as they are very slim with a relatively slim bezel and cheap too..

I was going OTT so I can spend my money and not give it to the TAX man.... My budget was around £800... I had a bit more but I need a Microserver too..

@Doomedspeed, Yeah the PC will be mostly be used for exactly that i.e spreadsheets, internet browsing, word documents, burning DVD's, VPN and occasional Photoshop or GIMP.

I've also found these if you are looking to get the VESA mount from here.

Honestly for 'standard' office use you could spend as much or as little as you like.

I actually probably wouldn't recommend Haswell in this situation since I think the power just wouldn't be put to use. Alternatively, how important is efficiency/low power to you?

Are looks important to you? There's lots of flexibility, so you could go for a nice miniITX system or something like that.

I bought my monitors and stand last week..

I think im going to go the Intel route like you guys suggested. I've been looking at the Bitfenix Prodigy white cases after you mentioned the miniITX route.

If I did go down that route, what would you recommend hardware wise, for a snappy office PC which can support x2 1080p DVI monitors?

Motherboard?
i5 3570k vs 4670k?
Graphics Card?
PSU (That will fit)
Wifi?

What are the main downfalls of going the mini-ITX route?

Love the look of that Bitfenix Prodigy...:D

You should be able to connect two monitors to the suggested MSI Z87M-G43 motherboard using the DVI and VGA ports (with VGA to DVI cable). This saves a graphics card.

Why bother with 2 screens when you could get a 2560x1440 res 27inch

I thoroughly recommend QX2710LED and I'm running it with onboard graphics.

Sounds like all you really need is a Core i3 or even a G860.

Did you get the monitors you originally listed?

Chances are the onboard graphics will be enough to drive them and you won't need a dedicated graphics card at all.

Yeah I went with them in the end.. Only to watch Argos reduce the 22" IPS HDMI ones today to the same price Grrrr.. Sod's law !

I would usually buy everything at the same time and then not log back in for months to avoid that sort of thing lol

I just haven't got a clue which I5 or motherboard to go for for these little smaller cases. If I could get one that could be clocked slightly that would be cool..

Overclocking would be a waste of electricity, I think Office won't use more than 10% cpu power at stock.

ASRock H87M-ITX Intel H87

Intel Core i5-4430 3.00GHz

2 monitors is always better than one when working, no matter what the resolution is.

You're right about the i3 though. He doesn't need anything higher and onboard graphics is more than enough.

Go for Trinity, Most the motherboards should have to display connectors on them. Mr Taxman might take some cash from you, but it will save you overall.
