Has this new G98 card made an appearance yet? Anybody know if OcUK are planning to stock them? Thinking of trying one out in my HTPC. :)

Oh, and is it a 8400GS or 9400GS? Did Nvidia ever make their minds up? :D

i thought that 8400gs was already out...?

Anyway why dont you get whats out right now rather than wait? Performance is going to be poor anyway...
HD3450/3650 or GF8400/8500/8600 are all good choices for an HTPC

Is it a new build or an older one btw? If its a new one have a loot at the 780G motherboard chipset. Its basically a HD2400/3450 on a mobo and supports Hybrid Crossfire as well.

It's a new system as of a month or two ago. The 8400GS is out but this is a new 8400GS based on the G98 chip specifically made for HD use. The apparently Nvidia changed it's name to the 9400GS to avoid confusion.

In Dec 2007, NVIDIA quietly unveils GeForce 8400GS with a new core: G98. But this time NVIDIA keeps low, did not make any announcement. Even their official site did not have any information about it. What’s more, in the market we can hardly find a G98-8400GS

The new GeForce 8400GS(D8M)
As a new core in the market, G98 is for high definition segment. The biggest point of this new core is PureVideo HD gen 3, Supports VC-1 video 100% hardware decode. With 100% VC-1 and H.264 decoding, pureVideo HD gen 3 can finally fight against UVD.

I was looking at the 8600GT, but this has now got my interest.

I take it that an AMD system is out of the question then? Have you given it any thought? Are you going to be overclocking?

Is G98 the core that is going to be used in the IGP mobos? If yes then from what i have heard/read its not going to be perform as good as 780G.

It's a PCI-E card. I've seen it on a few US sites for sale but nothing in the UK so far.

My current spec is fine thanks. :D

Hmmmm, really thought more people would know about this card. Maybe i should have posted it in the Home Cinema section. :p

From what I have read, then is going to be the 9400GS to avoid confusion. Apparently started to arrive in the US at the usual suspects. avsforums seem to have a good thread on this card. No mention of it arriving in the UK though.

Most people I know at the moment going HTPC are going 780G with EE Athlon.

Doesn't this still have exactly the same Purevideo HD features as the original 8400/8500/8600 etc, so it'll really be no different image wise.

According to the review in my post it's Purevideo HD Gen 3. Isn't it Gen 2 at the moment? Not sure what advances they've made.

Do ATI cards still have problems allowing 1360x768? Where you needed to use Powerstrip to force that resolution?
