Yes, two very old and slow cards, but my HIS X1950pro 256MB has just about had it. It won't stop overheating, even when freshly dusted and the ambient temp is fine. My friend could lend me an nvidia 8400 while i save up some pennies to get a new card, but I don't want something that's slower than my current card to be honest.
How do they compare performacne wise? I've lost touch with graphics card over the last 18 months or so, so I really have no idea :o

It will feel Well slow, Dog slow in fact, If I was you I'd buy a 2nd hand x1950pro from M&M at least you know where you are with one of those.

Of course this has Nowt to do with the fact that I have one in M&M right this minute. :D + :p

Not an attempt to sell I just couldn't miss the opportunity for a joke. :)

So.
Get yourself 50 quid together for a 2nd hand 8800GTX, I swapped 2 x1950pros out for one & have been Well happy & will be for quite some time.

Never Ever swap a GFX card out for the same or Lower, Always & I mean Always Upgrade. (Ignore my advice & I comes to getz you !!!)

Sorry in a funny mood right now. :o

I intend to. Can't quite afford one at the moment. How about a 7950GT? A friend has a spare one of those kicking around. I assume that's got quite a bit more power.

IIRC the 8600gt and 8600gts just sit either side of the x1950pro. If you want a cheap card the source a 2nd hand 8800gt 512mb. They sell for about £40 the last time I looked. That would be a big improvement.

you could try tightening up the heatsinc, they can work loose. happened to me on my his 9800pro iceQ worked fine after i tightened her up. you could also try stripping off the thermal pads and replacing with good thermal paist.

thought it worth a mention

I've had a 7950gt, it is probabily 10% faster than a 8600gt (but no dx10 support obviously)
