Silly question I guess :)

Anyway, is it safe to say that the 8400GS while being a pretty poor card by todays standards would indeed be substantially better than the equally poor for it's time FX5200?

Ta :)

Anything is better than an FX5200, when I had it I could play Doom3 with it on pretty decent settings, I remember, but I keep trying to work out if it was real life or a dream :P, at the same time GTA SA ran like crap on an FX5200.

Times have changed, The FX5200 wasn't really good for anything, yet it was marketed at gamers still, that's why it had such a bad rep. But nowadays the low end 64bit cards are targetted for HTPC's and HD playback and most of them do the job good. There are no really terrible cards out their now like there used to be, mainly because you can now get really good gaming level cards for about £100, where a few years ago, you had to pay around £200 for a midrange card like that.
