850 Pro - Bottleneck on Q6600 System?

Yeah youll get sata 2 speeds so around 260mb read/write rather than the 500mb read/write

It will still be very quick though

I have the 2 x 850 pro using a sata 2 (intel) port as my sata 3 (Marvell) controller is shockingly poor!.

I get 270mb read and 2790 write.

made a huge difference is system boot up etc and still a lot better than a HDD

it will not bottle neck the system the SSDs will just run at slower speeds being sata 2 over sata 3

Indeed, day to day OP you won't see much difference since you'll still be getting the very low random access times.

You'll only see SATA 2 being the "bottleneck" during sustained reads/writes, e.g. copying large files around.

if you only have sata 2 I wouldn't worry about it. I have my SSD running off a sata 2 port and still glad that I got them.

I am currently running a X58 board, you will still notice the performance gains from getting a SSD.

I can copy 10GB files to my external USB 3 hdd at 150mb without any issues

Make sure you unplug all other hard drives when installing OS, as that mobo has issues otherwise.

I have a 120GB Intel SSD with my Phenom 64, I did some searching first and I get a limited speed because of my motherboard, so you will probably see the same!!

It is still a big step up over a HDD though, but I guess if you don't want to upgrade the rest of your PC yet, you could get an older, slower SSD to save money, cos it wont affect the performance?? :)

I had an intel 520 180GB SSD with a C2D E8400 and P5K-E (intel P35 chipset, same as you) and the improvement over my WD black 640gb drive was amazing.

My board was very slow to post with all of my storage drives, but as soon as that it made it through that windows was loaded and running smooth in seconds. Even after having my win8 install for 3 years. Programs like photoshop CS6 would load within about 5 seconds max!

Best,
fobose

It still makes quite a big difference, especially on boot times. When I upgraded my Q8200 system with an SSD it felt like a whole new PC, even on sata 2.
