hello all
yesterday i managed to clock my 8500 to 4mhz using the cpu voltage at 1.34
it ran fine for about an hour then after that it froze
question
what would be the reccomended cpu volt setting ?

Ive got my E8500 @ 4Ghz @ 1.29V Stable.

have you ran Prime95 and other CPU Stress Tests? Also check the temps.

people on here have forgot more than I know, but I'd also look at checking your RAM.

My DRAM is @ 526.2 and the ratrio FSB:DRAM is 4:5

I have 4GB DDR2 Corsair Dominator 8500. Probably the same as your OCZ stuff.

Really you shouldn't need 1.34V for 4Ghz. Although that aint a massive amout of Volts, I'm sure you should be able to get it down and still have the 4GHz OC.

Post some more info regarding a CPUz Screenshot of your memory and CPU settings. You can run 2 at the same time for the screenshot. Also lets see what temps you're runnin @

here is my screenshot, what u suggest ?

well it looks the same as my cpu-z......

i'm running 8x500 with the ram at 1:1 but i know my ram will do 1000mhz just fine and thats with 1.4v in bios which is 1.39v in cpu-z.

on the P5Q board you can alter the DRAM:FSB Ratio, so you can push the FSB higher, so it doesn't play about with your RAM @ 1 : 1

You should be able to select 800Mhz on the DRAM option and it will auto set the ration for you. Mine runs at 4:5.

I also see that it's C0 stepping, but I'm sure that people with the same chips have got 4GHz

Try setting your FSB to 421 and the multi to 9.5x

Then make sure the DRAM is set to 800MHz. You could get away with a 1:1 and run your RAM @ 842Mhz, as it's only a slight overclock, but it's up2 you.

Up the Volts on the CPU core to 1.4 and see how you go.

Then run Prime and watch the temps. If they are fine, then lower the voltage down a bit and see if you get the same crash.

As you lower the voltage you should find the optimum voltage with a good stability : Heat Ratio.

HOWEVER - - - Someone else may know better, so if I've posted anything thats BS, please correct me.
