Hi all,

So I’ve got 2GB PC2-8500C5 1066MHz ram, which I’m currently running at 6400 (800) speeds.. on a 680i board with a QX6700. I'm just wondering what benefit i will see running it at 8500 (1066) speeds? or weather I’m just n00bing her.:o

Obviously it will be 1:1 with the FSB and I’m running my quad at 2.93 X11 Multi if that makes any difference.

Thanks

EDIT: Also is it possible to stick DDR2 into a DDR3 board?

Well you can't stick DDR2 in a DDR3 slot :)

And you should see some benefit of running at 8500 speeds but not THAT much. But why not do it if your memory is made for it :D

Hi all

So I have been trying to Overclock my system over the weekend and have the following results...

My initial goal was to increase my 8500 ram to 1066Mhz 1:1 with the FSB, instead of 800Mhz. And up the multi on my QX6700 to x11 2.933Ghz

After some testing it seems I can only get the ram stable at 910Mhz at 2.175v-2.2v (5.5.5.15 1T) :( although it's meant to be 1066 ram so I don't no what’s going on there:eek:. (I've tried 1000Mhz up to 2.375v with no luck)??

So it seems I can run the system at either:

2.9Ghz 290x10 (1.3500v Stock Vcore)
1160FSB
910Mhz Ram (5.5.5.15 1T)
Stable 30mins OCCT and 30mins ORTHOS
Core Temp
C0# 62c
C1# 61c
C2# 62c
C3# 60c
(Vdrop 1.280v from 1.314v Max load) bios set to 1.3500v (stock)

Or

2.933 266.6 x11 (Multi up x1 stock vcore again)
1066FSB
910Mhz Ram (5.5.5.15 1T again)
Stable 30mins OCCT and 30mins ORTHOS
Core Temp
C0# 63c
C1# 62c
C2# 62c
C3# 61c
(Vdrop 1.280v from 1.314v Max load) bios set to 1.3500v (stock)

680i Voltages
FSB 1.4v
SPP 1.4v
MCP 1.5v

The system locks up if I try 300x10 3.00Ghz 1200FSB. Obviously using the increased FSB overclock will give me a bigger performance boost, really it's just the ram I’m bothered about there must be a way of getting it to 1066?? As I would prefer to run 1:1 with the FSB.

What do you guys think...?
Cheers
