850W Power Supply Unit Choices

I've got the 750 version of the Dark Power Pro and am VERY happy with it.

-Looks amazing
-Packaging is top notch
-Insane amount of cables and differant types (differant number of connections etc)
-Enough PCI cables for SLI/Crossfire
-Silent
-Modular

All in all a top class peice of kit.

Pretty future proof from what I've read mate.

Typically a beast of a gaming rig would not draw what the PSU manufacturers would lead us to believe. Seen numerous reviews where their test rigs haven't drawn more than 430w on load. Of course it is better to be safe than sorry and in light of this I just upgraded to a Be Quiet! Dark power 850W. Am happy with it!

Although it is NOT as quiet as my previous PSU the Enermax Liberty 620W. I do have very quiet watercooling though and its in a sound-proofed recording studio so I am probably not the most impartial opinion giver!!

Highly recommended PSU actually - I love the way the only cable to physically attached to the thing is the 24pin mobo connector. If you're like me and get OCD about cable tidying inside your rig this is an absolute BONUS. The enermax had all kinds of crap hard wired to the PSU before as well as the modular connectivity.

I've got a 750W Be Quiet sat at home, and just opening it all up gave me a stupid grin :D Big, weighty black box with a carry handle opening up to boxes of all-sorts of modular cables (all sleeved in a loose-ish black mesh) and the PSU itself with it's one and only compulsory cable attached (and lovely gold-esque finish).

I actually feel confident in a PSU I've bought!

The Seasonic M12D is the better PSU, but it does cost more, so you'd expect it to be.

The only ones as good are the Antec Signature Premium Series, but the 850w is out of stock on here.

But both Seasonic and Dark power are good PSUs, and either would be nice to have.

I've got the dark power and it is near enoguht o silent my hdd makes more noice.

and it coems with more cables than you can shake a stick at :p

About as future-proof as you're likely to get in a computer: PSU connections have changed relatively little compared to RAM, GPU and CPU sockets, and in terms of power draw there's nowhere near the amount of change as you find in other areas. A 300W PSU from a 3 year old packard bell box could run a low-power system now: a top of the range PSU from the same time would likely be able to run most mid-range boxes now.

i own the corsair Tx850W, isnt on your list, but i found it to be very good, stable and pretty quiet, though some cables were a bit short with the antec 1200

Steer clear of the Coolermaster Mpower series if you can. Have tried 3 of those and they all produce this nasty buzzing/clicking sound from what sounds like inside the fan. Thought I had a dodgy unit to begin with then after the second rma and finding some other users who noticed the same thing we all realized its a design flaw!!
