I've an 8600G paired with an RX 580. Looking at what Overclockers have for sale, I'm tempted by an RTX 4060 or an Arc A750 in white, that they have. I previously had an
Arc A580 but got shot as I thought the drivers were poor, however; it appears the later drivers are stable.

So I had a budget of £150 but can go upto £300 I've decided.

Would the RTX 4060 ot the Arc A750 be held back by my CPU.

1080P gaming.

Thanks.

If new, 6750XT sort of level for £300
If considering used then I'd hope you'd be able to make an offer and get a B grade 7700XT for sub £300 and you'd have a little warranty vs probably none buying on the second hand market.

Sort of equivalent, I have a Ryzen 5700 paired to a 6800GT running games at 4K and haven’t noticed any bottlenecks. I haven’t taken any measurements or run any tests but 1440p@120hz is how I usually run games with some 4K@120hz

Not sure about that, its about 7600X performance in productivity and in gaming with a dGPU its maybe 5600X levels, at least that's what results I've seen for it.

The (new) cards that are £150 (RX 6500 XT & RTX 3050 6GB) are not great performers, do not recommend from a 580.

6750 XT is likely to be the best performing card you'll get, unless the 7700 XT comes back on offer.

4060 is fine for 1080p gaming and has good power consumption (around 130 watts), but I wouldn't pay £300 for one.

A750 is alright, but if you didn't like the drivers/inconsistent performance of the A580 then you won't like that either. The RX 6600 is a similar price and is significantly more power efficient than the A750 at idle and under gaming load, albeit with a dated feature set.

You can get the A770 16GB @ OCUK within your top-end budget.

I ended up going for a 1080 GTX which I'm quite happy with, seems to play nice with my CPU and as it's the Xtreme Gaming edition by Gigabyte, it has all the flashing logo's etc which looks nice in my case.

I'm assuming the OP paid a lot less than the 4060 would have been, or at least, I hope they did :o
i get that completely and agree i hope your right.. but a 4060 vs 1080 the gaming experience would be massive.

BUT...(i also like to stick a but it :D)
if you playing game like sodding roblox and so on then yer yer 1080 all day long.
but for actual games the 4060 would have been a massive differance

But you can get a 1080 for £80-100, vs £250 for a 4060.

I paid £135 from a shop which gave me 2 year warranty. Cyberpunk P.Liberty 1080p Ultra settings; 70+ FPS. Mechwarrior 5 Clans 65+, so all good from my point of view. The 1080 gives me 0 ray tracing capability but hey ho, I'm happy with my purchase. Got £65 for my Rx 580 so my upgrade was only £70. Quite pleased TBF.

you can get a 470 for £40 dont make it better.

im not saying he made the wrong choice, just saying a 4060 would have been a lot better
Why get daft about it when he already had an RX 580?

It would have been 100%+ more expensive for way less than 100% uplift. And the GTX 1080 can easily be sold again in 6 month for a tiny loss where as the RTX 4060 is going to be worth substantially less when the next card is out to replace it. Also the 4060 is a con with 8GB, another good reason no to buy new.
