Hi everyone. I am planning to upgrade my graphics card and have seen a 8800GS for £50. I know this card is a bit outdated, but is this a good deal? I currently have a 6800 LE

Not for that much no. If you're looking second hand you should be able to find a 4850/4870, or if you prefer Nvidia, an 8800GT minimum in that price region.

It would be a good upgrade, but there are better out there in that region of cash.

Nope.
Just as a check, have you any idea what PSU your machine is using and whether it has any PCIE power connectors? (I'm presuming you're on PCI-E as the 6800 used both AGP and PCI-E. Also whats the rest of your system's spec?)

I've got an unlocked phenom x2 550 @ 3.4ghz, 2gb of ddr3 ram and a 550w psu with a 6 pin and 8 pin pcie connector. It could handle a much more powerful gpu, but I don't have that much money to spend on one)

As long as that PSU is a decent brand rather than generic then yeah you should be fine. I'd recommend keeping your eyes open for a second hand 4850/4870, 9800GTX+ or a GTX260, they all sell around the £50 mark.

Speedwise its 9800GTX/4850<4870/GTX260.

If you cant find any of these, 8800/9800GTs often go in this price bracket as well, but the other cards are all better. You might want to consider upgrading memory too, this may cause issues at higher resolutions, 2GB is quite low for gaming these days, as windows will generally eat a decent portion of it, leaving the game a little short changed.

Thanks for all the advice! :) The PSU is a OCZ Fatal1ty 550w, so it should handle most cards. I might look out for a hd 4850, maybe even try and get a faulty one REALLY cheaply and see if it can be fixed or repaired?

Wouldn't bother with a faulty one mate, but yeah if you can find a 4850/4870/GTX260 for your budget you're good to go. :)
