8800 GTS Help

Managed to run my 8800GTS 640 on a Dell 9200 with its 375w PSU but it does have 2 decent 12 volt rails so its more the quality than supposed quantity of a cheap one. I would go for a good quality 600w, Seasonic or Enermax though just to future proof.
 
I got a weird high pitched noise from my 8800GTS once and thought I damaged it but it turned out I just forgot to plug the PCI-E plug in.

I wouldent even run my old E-Machines on a 200W PSU :eek:.
 
I was wondering would this do the job:-

That's a £15 PSU. I wouldn't trust it.

Edit : What really matters on a PSU is the rating on the 12V line.

Generally the cheaper a PSU is the lower that rating is. Also the cheaper it is the less reliable that rating is.

I wouldn't go as far as to advise you on what rating you need.

The psu is probably the single most important component in your pc. Don't skimp on it or you WILL regret it. Steer clear of Q-Tec, Hiper, Winpower, EZ-Cool etc and stick to the likes of Corsair, Seasonic, Enermax and Tagan etc. With your spec you could probably get away with a GOOD 500W psu.
 
As said what ever you do don't skimp on your PSU, At the end of the day when some cheapo PSU has blown your graphics card, mobo ,CPU & RAM all at the same time you'd wish you got a proper quality unit.
 
I don't think you need to go to extremes and get the Seasonic etc type PSUs. Generally the other PSUs will do the job, but are hotter/noisier/less efficient/not as powerful.

Saying that I went for a Corsair 620W, which isn't exactly a budget PSU.
 
Thanks for the advice, you lovely bunch :p I ended up ordering this;Ernemax 600W

My main concern now that it might be too big for my computer as it's Dual Core, i guess i'll have to wait and find out. If it's the same size as the normal PSU's then great!
