Good to hear mate - out of interest what was sucking the processor ? Anti what ;)

Oh, shame on the "OC your processor" posts! That was clearly nothing to do with it...

Those 3DMark scores seem low, at default 8800GTS speeds I got 12553 in '05 and 7951 in '06 with a AMD X2 @ 2.5Ghz so I would expect a Core2 Duo to score higher.

you can't compare a AMD X2 @ 2.5 against @E6300 @ 1.8+, the are good but not that good!

Hi Guys, i have just purchased a new system spec as follows:

C2D e6300 Stock
2gb Corsair Dominator memory
Gigabyte DS4
BFG 8800GTS Stock
150gb 10k rpm SATA

I have been experiencing some performance issues in games i have been playing. Enemy Territory has an annoying sound skip and mouse jump every few seconds. In Prey whenever i have a Neon Light, Slot machine or TV in the characters FOV my fps dramatically drops. Also the main menu is fine but the system menu is slow as a dog!

I am getting 11478 Marks in 3DMark05 is this the norm for my spec?
Any idea's about the sound/Mouse jumping?

I may try a fresh install of windows but only once i know that it will help.

Cheers

when installing new hardware you should ALWAYS do a fresh install of your OS, how could you not? i have the same stuff as you more or less, what power supply you using? And those 3D/05 scores are not low in fact sounds about right to me if you are running stock, dont forget that 3D/05 in not dual core optimised as is 3D/06 i get 13500+ @ stock everything in 3D/05 and 8500 in 3D/06

Aha! setting all processes to core 0 and ET to core 1 has fixxed the problem. one of the processes running in task manager must be hogging the cpu every few seconds. i will hunt the little begger down but now for some spangly new graphics and german killing :p

Cheers
Glad you got it sorted! :)

Now go play!!! :D

Not true.

As long as you use Driver Cleaner or something of that sort you can quite easily change your graphics card without a reinstall.

Infact I recently went from an ATi X1900XTX to an 8800GTS without reinstalling with no performance loss or problems whatsoever.

I get a nats under 11K in 06 with the spec below, and games are flying.

Only component you really need to reinstall for is the mobo.

This was a fresh install :p i just did it over the space of a day so didnt do a very good jobbie. That is why i did it again. still getting lag in MP3's and ET when i run them on the same core as the programs/system files. could a don please move this over to thew windows forums please :)

I agree with easyrider, you have a great cpu, a great motherboard, what have you got to loose?

OC that 6300, there apparently not even difficult to clock anyways

theres no doubt about the c2d being a good clocker, i do intend to clock the nuts off it, of course i do want to sort out this lag problem first ;) any programs out there that monitor cpu performance more accurately than windows?

Thats right M8 before you OC you need it to run right @ stock, why people think you need to OC it to resolve your issues is beyond me 1st things first M8! :) P.S what PSU are you using?

I am running a hyper 580watt jobbie so i doubt its that, i just downloaded a program from microshaft thats a more detailed version of the process manager that you get as standard. I will take a more detailed look at all of my processes when i get the chance unless anyone has had this problem before..... bring on vista i'm bored of XP now :p

Dude chill out. He only give an example that you don't ALWAYS need to do a fresh install of your OS when installing new hardware, and he was right, hence you were wrong. :p
