1. is it worth buying to play the following games on 19" lcd with max resolution of 1280x1024 ?

BF2
BF21**
FEAR
Need for speed underground 2 / Most wanted

Pro Evo 6


2. Will it run under windows xp pro / home ?

3. Will DX10 work in xp pro/home when released ?

4. if not worth it, what other card shall i get ? do i really need 512mb or more memory ?

yeah it'll play those games brilliantly, it also works in windows XP/DX9.0 enviroment but no DX10 isn't compatibable with windows XP, windows vista only i believe :)
 
X1950 Pro/7900 GS would be fine for that res if you have 2GB of RAM and a decent CPU. What are you upgrading from?

Yeah it's overkill unless you expect to keep it for quite long.

Probably be better with a 7950GT or 1950XT 256MB, both of which are almost half the price of a 8800GTS
 
if i get a g80 i have to get a sub 60 quid mboard and not so *** ram.

current rig is all xp2100 agp gf4 etc so no good. should be selling it soon.

in this case whats the cheapest card to play all of the above in full detail at the lcd's resolution ? that way i can spend more on decent mb and ram, and get overclocking.....
 
i say i you fancy 8800GTS then go for it, you'll be able to run everything with maximum eye candy at that resolution and still get high frame rates, plus it'll last ages and is DX-10 compatible :)
 
Well everyone saying the 8800gts aint worth it for that rez theres one thing, i can run bf2142 at full settings 16xaa, 16xaf at 1600x1200 and its smooth as, so at 1280x1024 i bet there aint many games you wouldn't be able to run at that rez and settings, great cards and i came from a x1900xt and the iq is much much better than the ati card.

I realize the circumstances are different i sold my card and only had to put £140 for a upgrade, so for me it was a good boost, i am getting with some mild overclocks double the 3dmark2006 i was getting before, and theres no way i could have gone crossfire for the £140 it cost me more, thumbs up for me with these cards.

Exactly the same upgrade here, and aggreed 100%. A great upgrade, defo NOT overkill.
