8800 GTX and CPU advice

Hello and merry christamas to all :)

I think I already know the answer to my problem but here goes.

Recently upgraded my graphics card from a 7800GTX to a XFX 8800 GTX,

Now Iv ran 3dmark05 and 06 and suprisingly i havnt noticed a big increase in results
In 06 I get 6668
In 05 I get 11111

With my old 7800 I got 4600 and 6000 ish if i rememeber correctly

I suspect that my CPU is not fast enough for my new card

I have the following spec

XFX 8800 GTX.
AMD A64 3700+ san diago s939.
2GB Mushkin PC3200 (the blue 1).
DFI SLI-DR mobo.
OCZ Gamer X stream 700Watt PSU.
WD 250Gb SATA 11 Hdd.
Audigy2ZS Plat.

Should I get a faster CPU, although with the newer AM2 chips avaliable,
it doesnt seem like there is much of an option to upgrade my socket 939 except for a FX57. Which Iv heard if i overclock my cpu it can get close 2.

Should I just upgrade my RAM, CPU, MOBO to the lastest AMD AM2 type

Was gonna upgrade soon anyway of that helps

Thanks in advance

Even for that CPU your results are low. 9000 in 06 should be nearer the mark. What setting is it on? Maybe strip out the drivers with drivercleaner pro in safe mode and try again. Is the cpu overclocked?

Well yea thats what i thought.

My system isnt overclocked at all and was only rebuilt a few weeks back with fresh install of windows etc. after a hdd problem.

I used driver cleaner pro when i removed my old card and installed this 1 yesterday

Im also using the drivers from the nvidia website. :p

on the low side for an 8800GTX mate.

Could upgrade your cpu depends what res your gaming at 1280 x 1024 you shouldn't really need to just O/C it a bit.

Should really be getting at least 9000 - 10000.

Check your card settings and see if you are forcing AA, AF, Transparency AA on with the driver.

I would remove the driver and go for a reinstall using the 97.44 drivers though some ppl report probs in oblivion with them.

yer those results are low , sure youve not got any AA forced in the CP or something like that ?
Given your mobo and that cpu I would cetainly be overclocking it , I wouldve thought it had quite a bit of headroom even if your on air or even the std heatsink.
I get about 40 points below 10000 in 06 so I wouldve thought you would get around 9000 as fornowagain says , just make sure you check the CP Settings carefully. :)

Its not in the wrong x16 slot is it?

Why ask about an FX57? With an x11 multi and that board an SD 3700+ should get there quite easily.

Just looking at the ORB. 9000 is very over optimistic. Surprised me, the single core scores suck tbh. And its not just the cpu score, the SM2/SM3 are low as well. How about an Opteron 170? That go well with a DFI.

How does it score in game though? You can't play 3Dmark06, it gets a bit repetitive for me :D

Do you have FEAR, try the bench, whats it get?

Still 6000 seems low compared to other comparable rigs. And considering my 7800GTX made 4000 ish

Might try and overclock my board/cpu etc.

Im running on air but my system runs very cool, got an Akasa Mirage case
With :-
2x Scythe 1600RPM-120mm Fans "Inlet and exhaust"
Thermalright XP90 with 92mm fan
Thermalright HR-05 SLI chipset cooler

So my system temp is about 35c
CPU 28-35 idle-load
NB around 33c

Should run cool enough for some mild o/c

Ill also try some new drivers and post on here my results ;)
