Hi all, looking for a recommendation for the above card which has died recently :(
Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L rev 1.0 so has PCi-E so was looking at something like http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-131-GW&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1576 which I notice is PCi-E 2.0 .. Would this card work ok in this MB ? Not too worried about performance as it's for my niece who uses the comp for chatting, music and watching Youtube videos and playing Sims so doesn't need to be seriously quick ;)
Any help much appreciated

The card you are looking at will be fine, PCi-E 2.0 is backwardly compatible (so to speak). I see we have similar motherboards. It might have been a budget board but it's been one of the most stable I've ever owned. Not a single BSOD in 2 years.

What you've suggested would be fine but if you want a bit more poke, how about:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-142-OK&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1854
Slightly bit more money. Depends on your top budget.

Or if wanting an ATI card, how about:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-124-HT&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=708

I'm sure others will be able to offer other suggestions.

PS. Not a Sims fan but I suspect any of the above would be fine.

Suspect that Marine-RX179 is pretty much on the button there. But then again, I always work on the assumption that better to "over specify" than "under specify". Though if you are sure your nieces horizons are unlikely to broaden gaming wise, then something like the 9800GT would be fine.

Theres a potential case for the 450 as I assume its like the rest of the 400 series and clock down to 50MHz when idle or light desktop useage which would probably save some power useage over the 9800GT.
