Bought the XFX 8800GTX from OcUK on Monday. Installed it that night, and nothing - not a sausage, on pressing the power button I got absolutely nothing - no fans, no noise, no signs of life at all from anything.
Tried all the usual problem solving stuff and was left scratching my head.
Rang up OcUK tech support and the helpful chap at the other end ran through all the 'usual stuff', then - prior to an RMA - suggested a CMOS clear
Bingo!
2 lessons for me.
1. Even as a long time, and somewhat jaded, tech guy who considers himself 'ok' with hardware I can still forget the basics! (D'oh)
2. OcUK, once again, came up trumps. Their quick and efficient support staff are always helpful, and once again they've done themselves proud. Not having to speak to 'Rajid' in Uzbekismenisragistan is worth its weight in gold
So: If you install a major new component - don't forget about your CMOS!
