8800 GTX Problems

I friend of mine has 2x 8800GTX's in sli and is having some serous performance problems.

Spec :

E6600 @ 3.5ghz (1.4v roughly) ( Noctua CPU Cooler)
2GB OCZ PC 8500
BFG 680i Motherboard
2x 8800GTX ( 158.16 Drivers)
Enermax Galaxy 1000 Watt
Coolmaster Stacker

His game is fine for first 5 mins and then after that his fps go from 60 to 38 etc in all games. I asked em to check PCI-E is at 16x and it appears to be fine and also all the usual stuff AA settings, sli enabled etc. Anybody any idea what it could be. :confused: ??
 
From what ive heard SLI is still broken/not functioning properly in any Nvidia drivers?

From whats been hinted only some reg hacks/work arounds improved it but not properly.

Im sure someone will confirm this....

in any case id advise him to try just one card for now... see if its better performance.
