Hi all,

Couple of hopefully straight forward GPU related questions.

1]
I currently have fitted a '768Mb Asus 8800GTX PCI-E (x16), Mem 1800MHz GPU 575MHz 128 streams 2 x Dual Link DVI-I HDTV '
Using nTune I would like to know what is the approx optimal overclocking setting to use?
I increased the GPU & GPU memory up to 630 ( from 575 MHz ) & 930 ( from ahem, can't remember off top of head ) respectively, clicked the GPU stabilty test & report says 'OK'.
Should I stay at stock settings, are the increases I made ok or is there room for improvement?

2]
I have a 680i mobo DDR2. Can I upgrade from my 8800GTX to one of the later generation GPU's ( i.e. GTX 295 ) or do I need a DDR3 mobo to do so?

many thanks in advance

630MHz should be fine but watch your temps and test. If you get no artefacts or abnormalities then you are fine. The proof is always in the testing ;)

The system memory has nothing to do with the graphics memory as both work independantly so not sure where you are getting confused? The 295 works on the new PCI-Express 2.0 motherboards but are backward compatible with older versions, so therefore will be fine.

Cheers, will stick to 630Mhz & no higher.

There are 2 sliders on nTune ref GPU that can be adjusted.
1st is Core bus - This was at 575MHz & now 630
2nd is Memory bus - Which I can't remember what was stock but I have increased to 930MHz..... I'm assuming it has something to do with the GPU as its on that page?
I can't attach a photo but if you google images nTune GPU settings you'll see the page I mean.
Cheers also for the 295 info, will start saving ;o)

The memory speed you mention is the speed of the GPU memory so effectively it's running at 1860MHz.. You change the speed of the shaders to.. Increase by small increments and test :)

as for the 295.. I would hang on.. If your 880 GTZ is working fine, then save your pennies for AMD5x or Nvidia new offerings.
