Question to all the people with a 8800GTX;

I've bought a BFG 8800GTX OC2 756MB Version from OC and I had to play around with the settings a bit to get S.T.A.L.K.E.R to run. I kept getting a grey display in the game, I've played around with the settings so I now get the game to run, but I'm not sure if I've turned some settings off in the control panel to lower performance.

Just wondered if any one on here could possibly post a screen shot of the control panel settings they use with their GTX.

On a final point, very impressed with the 8800GTX. I've gone from a X1900 XT which I had from release, but I am impressed so far with this card, especially the big improvement on being quieter over the ATI card.

The first thing I would try is a different driver set. More than likely that this will be the source of your problems, rather than control panel settings. What drivers are you using at the moment?

You can't of bought a £400 card to just have a quieter PC?

Get the newest drivers, (158.xx?) people say this improves stalker noticably

I don't think he has. I think he is saying overall he is impressed with the card PLUS the fact it's also quiet is a nice bonus. :)

The grey screen is caused by having AA on in the Nvidia Control Panel, has to be on Application Controlled in there, and id also RMA the card as you dont have enough memory, the GTX has got 768mb of Ram, not 756mb so you been diddled. :p

On my GTS i have my CP set to :-

Antialiasing Transparency = SuperSampling.
Force MipMaps = Trilinear.
Multi Display/Mixed GPU Acceleration = Single Display Performance Mode (as ive only got 1x card)
Texture Filtering Negative LOD Bias = Clamp
Texture Filtering Quality = High Quality
Threaded Optimisation = On
Triple Buffering = On.
Vertical Sync = Force On (as i dont like the tearing)

The rest are just left on their default settings, and i set my AA/AF settings to 2xAA/16xAF, or Application Controlled if the games got those settings. :)

I only use 2xAA as i like the SuperSampling on for the best image quality, and its also a killer on performance the Super, so i don't go any higher than 2x as the hit is only about 1-2 frames less, so i still get my amazing performance, and i cant tell that its any slower as 1-2fps is nowt :D, GTX will be able to use more AA with the Super though. :)

I never change any of those setting as i use them in every game, i just change the AA/AF to Application Controlled if the games got those settings as said, but if not then its 2xAA/16xAF, don't mind abut only using 2xAA as long as i can have some AA on with the SuperSampling. :D

Oh and as above, its the 158.22 drivers, about the best they are, run Stalker great, as they do everything else also.

Make sure High Quality is selected, Gamma correct antialiasing is on and LOD mipmapping is set to Clamp.

AA/AF settings to your liking.

And I had a feeling 756mb was wrong, hey i did the message at 1:36am after reinstalling all of windows nice and fresh so was well and truly knackered to make sure :o  :p
