Hey,

First off, does the 8600GT 256MB card ( PCI-E ) use a 6 pin power connector to the PSU?

Secondly, being the nice guy i am, i might buy my younger brother an 8800GT as he is playing a lot of cod/crysis and i can't see his card giving him an enjoyable experience, he plays on medium settings on 1024*768 and gets 95 fps, but it's nice to play on high, plus i'm thinking futureproofing.

He has an Asus M2N-X mainboard, and a 480W Psu. I don't believe the PSU has a dedicated PCI-E connector, and i wondered if this motherboard can definitely take the 8800GT?

I had an Asus M2V and had to swap it out on account of an 8800GT producing error beeps....

Hi, well if intended for use with Crysis & COD4; dont purchase the 8800GT 256mb version or will have just thrown your money away, even at the above resolution imo, 512mb version is the way to go otherwise dont expect to have eye candy on high. As for PSU, well what brand is it as much will depend on the 12v rails total and age of the PSU in terms of use. Motherboard looks ok going from Asus.co.uk, but cant be sure as they dont mention if it's either PCI-E 1.0 or 1.1 support within specs list.

Sorry mate, i didn't quite make it clear above, he has an 8600GT 256MB at the moment.

I'm looking to buy him a graphical upgrade, but want to make sure that the PSU has the right connections, and the motherboard is compatible with new revision cards.

I obviously can't ask him to check the connections as it would give my goals away, also, he lives at home .. 150+ miles away so i can't check.

If it has a 6 pin connector, i know the PSU has the tools to connect an 8800GT, i'm already pretty sure it has the juice.

Furthermore, i don't want him to get excited about a new card, only for it to produce error beeps... and i can't swap out a MB. Had to get a tech mate to do it for me, so he'd be screwed.
