I know this has probably been asked before but my searches did not turn up a definetive answer earlier.

Im currently running a Gainward 8800Gts 640Mb purchased recently from the nice chaps at OCUK. My plan had always been to go SLi at some point and as i currently have the cash now i went to buy a second one only to discover OCUK have stopped selling the Gainward cards :(

Will i be able to SLi a different brand card such as OCUK's own or will i definitely need a Gainward one? Also will i need to get another 640MB one or would a 320MB one work?

Just curious as i know Crossfire has some flexibility in using different cards but the last time i used a duel card setup was back in the stone age with my 2 SLi Voodoo2 8meg ^^

Afaik if they have the same bios then they will work together not sure about the differing memory issue though as that would mean a different bios.

Imo you would be better off selling the GTS you have and buying a GTX or maybe wait and see how the 2900xt pans out .

they will work but at the card with lower clocks unless they both the same.

you can use the 320mb version but the total vram will be 320mb in your SLI setup, so buy a 640mb version so that u will have 640mb for gaming.

They don't have to be the same brand, Nvidia done away with that ages ago, you can pair any together, BFG with a Gainward, EVGA with a LeadTek etc... makes no difference, as long as they both the same cards, i.e 2x GTS's, 2x GTX's etc... :)

Thanks for the replies :)

One more question about clocking. I currently have my GTS clocked to 650/900 but the standard clocks are 513/795. If i was to buy another and SLI them would i be able to OC them both? Obviously i might not get 650/900 out of the new card but both @600/800 would be nice :)

As far as I know, as Loadsa Says they using a BFG with EVGA makes no difference, they are the same reference cards, just badged and sold differently. As for the OC card, put it back to factory setting, the second card will come and OC them together to see what they push.

BYW what kind of size of monitor do you have, unless its a 24" and above I really wouldnt bother going for SLI at the moment, one card doesnt break a sweat below 1600 x 1200 with games etc yet....

Regards

Vic
