OK I've been clocking CPU's for a while but never really ventured into overclocking graphics cards.

Since I've pretty much maxed out my CPU I thought I'd turn my attention elsewhere...

My 8800 is an ultra so it's already factory overclocked to a degree (612MHz).

I've been playing around with Asus smart doctor and upped the memory and shaders slightly and the MHz to 625.

What kind of settings can the card take, and what temp is it safe to?

Also what will increase my 3DMark score most, shaders, memory or MHz?

Thanks for any advice guys.

Oh my card is a single 768MB Asus EN8800 Ultra

612 is the normal speed for the slowest Ultra model, there are 612/636/655 models.

I run my EVGA SC at 700/2400

Wow cool didn't realise you could clock them so much higher :D

I'll try 700 when I get home then!

What temp is the 8800 good up to? Think mine runs at about 80 but have no idea whats good/bad.

700 is high, most can do 685-690, there was supposed to be an XFX at 685 but not sure if it made it to retail.

BTW, I run my Fan at 100% up from default 60% for that speed.

These cards idle at high 50's to low 60's and get bit hotter on Load but 80c is nothing, the Thermal Slowdown Temp is at least 105% (need to look in bios as you could only see it in older Nvidia drivers with the Temps (not Ntune crap).

Thanks helmutcheese I shall look forward to having a go at it tonight. I'll start around 680 then and work my way from there :D

Well clocked it up its currently at:

662MHz Engine
1602 Shader
2200 Memory

Although 662MHz seems to be the highest that you can set it in smart doctor :(

What do other people use to overclock their cards?

Just downloaded and installed but when I run ATI Tool it says the kernal mode driver isnt running? Anyone had this before?

Yes i have that too, but you should still be able to do a stress test, just not use the clocking tools in Ati Tool. I believe the button is called "Check For Artifacts"
